Some of us have a hard time asking for directions, and we’ve “driven” around for quite some time and we’re still lost.  Maybe it’s time we asked for help.  Why?  Because what we’re doing isn’t working but most importantly:

We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.  Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need - Hebrews 4:15-16.

It's About Time - Week 11

What does a mature Christ-follower look like?  Does it have to do with how much we know?  Does it have anything to do with busyness?  In these two messages we will seek to understand what real growth means from God’s perspective as detailed in Colossians 2:6-7:

And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.  Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.  For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority – Colossians 2:6-10

Perhaps it’s time for many of us to grow up . . . on Christ’s terms.

A lot hangs in the balance with Christ-following people.  Like hope.  How can we bring hope to a hurting world if our priorities are out of whack?  This sermon tries to make very specific application of this text and others:

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is - Ephesians 5:15-17

We will seek to reprioritize our individual lives, and our life as a church in line with “making the most of every opportunity.” .

Selfishness is our default.  We begin to believe that life is just about us.  But according to our text, that self-centered life is an empty life.  We are called to do minister to others while there is time.  Here is our text for this talk:

Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith - Galatians 6:8-10.
